**Verified extract — [Fact — A1]** BBC reported DJI would publish a firmware update in the coming days to prevent its kit flying inside Washington DC restricted airspace, and a later update to stop aircraft crossing national borders. Phantom 2 owners would have to download it; DJI would call the update mandatory, blocking future features if skipped. Spokesman Michael Perry told the BBC the no-fly-zone expansion (GPS location check against airports and other restricted areas) was being pushed out a bit earlier than planned after recent incidents. The firmware should stop at least some DJI drones taking flight within a 25 km (15.5 mile) radius centred on the Washington Monument. The page identified the White House operator as an unnamed National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency worker flying drunk from a nearby apartment. A DJI Spreading Wings that crashed near the Mexico-U.S. border with methamphetamine taped on would not take the new firmware. Senator Charles Schumer: The eagle has crash-landed in Washington.
