**Verified extract — [Fact — B1]** El País reported that the Spanish Navy planned to deploy unmanned aircraft (UAV) that summer on Indian Ocean ships against piracy. The Navy had eight million euros through year-end to lease three complete systems with a purchase option. UAV use would cut embarked-helicopter hours and allow discreet watch on suspected motherships, Navy sources said. Indra had developed Pelícano, a rotary-wing naval UAV prototype, but given time and budget the Navy leaned toward Boeing's ScanEagle: a fixed-wing mini-UAV 1.2 m long and 3 m wide, able to fly to 5,000 m with up to 48 hours' endurance.
