## Record

**Verified extract — [Fact — A1]** Hugh Lessig of the Daily Press (hlessig@dailypress.com) reported from Hampton that at Langley Air Force Base the prime time for fighting terrorists is when most of Hampton is asleep, 11 p.m. to 7 a.m., because the triggers are computer keyboards and the battlefield is a computer chat room. The 480th Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Wing headquarters was booming: years of fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan had prompted heavier use of manned and unmanned aerial surveillance and a flood of data requiring more analysts. Every day the 480th was examining 25 to 30 full-motion video lines from Predator and Reaper drones and more than 1,000 additional products. Sidebar: HQ Langley AFB, Hampton; formed as an anti-submarine group in 1943; more than 4,500 airmen, civilians and contractors plus more than 700 Air Reserve; operates and manages $5 billion of intelligence resources. Caption: airmen from the 480th examine data from Predator and Reaper drones daily; a Predator flies above Kandahar Air Field in southern Afghanistan in January (AP file photo). Jump to page 6.

**Kinematic object.** MQ-1 Predator / MQ-9 Reaper FMV feeds processed at Langley 480th ISR Wing.

**Coverage frame.** military

## Source integrity

- Why original: Daily Press staff byline (Hugh Lessig) on the local Langley-based 480th ISR Wing's expanding drone-video analysis mission.
- Wire reprint status: Story is staff-written. The Kandahar Predator photograph is an AP file photo printed on the page.
- OCR / clip caveats: Verified from Newspapers.com full-page scan OCR. Main hed after "Growing role for virtual" was cut by a display letter; locked facts are from the deck, byline, body, and sidebar. Jump page 6 not extracted here.

## LRRK relevance

Watch / Passport. A Watch desk would have logged a CONUS ISR wing processing 25–30 Predator/Reaper FMV lines a night from a Hampton keyboard floor.
