**Verified extract — [Fact — B1]** Al Jazeera reported tribal sources saying an attack in Wadi Abida in al-Shabwan killed mediator Jaber al-Shabwani. The area had seen, over the previous four months, several US drone attacks against suspected al-Qaeda fugitives. Local sources said the missile attack also killed al-Qaeda offshoot member Mohammed bin Jamil, whom al-Shabwani had reportedly gone to meet. His tribe attacked the Maarib–Ras Isa oil pipeline; tribesmen also tried to occupy the presidential palace in Maarib and were repulsed. Yemen's supreme security committee apologised for the botched raid; President Ali Abdullah Saleh said he would form an investigative panel.
