**Verified extract — [Fact — A1]** Michelle Breidenbach (mbreidenbach@syracuse.com) of The Post-Standard reported that for the first time, pilots directed an MQ-9 around the commercial runways at Syracuse Hancock International Airport on Saturday (6 December 2014). The 174th now has access to all taxiways and runways at the airport, according to a wing release. A 174th video still shows a JetBlue airliner passing the smaller unmanned Reaper. Eventually the Air National Guard hopes to win FAA approval to launch and land drones at Hancock; a decision is expected sometime next spring after an environmental review. In August the unit piloted its first taxi of the MQ-9 on a ramp inside the air base, next to the commercial airport. Training flights still launch from Fort Drum near Watertown, with permission to operate over Onondaga, Madison and Oswego counties, piloted from inside Hancock. Pilots in Syracuse also operate unmanned aircraft on Afghanistan and other overseas missions.
