## Record

**Verified extract — [Fact — A1]** Al Jazeera reported Iran had lodged a formal UN complaint over a US drone "deep" into its eastern airspace and aired footage of what it said was the aircraft. The foreign ministry summoned Swiss ambassador Livia Leu Agosti; state TV said the incident showed Washington had upped "provocative and covert actions." In a letter to Ban Ki-moon, Iran's UN ambassador called the incursions "tantamount to an act of hostility" and "violations and acts of aggression." Iran "strongly protests the violation of an RQ-170 spy aircraft deep into its airspace" and asked for "an urgent response and compensation from the US government." A written complaint to the Swiss ambassador held "the US government fully responsible ... against all known international laws and regulations." State TV aired more than two minutes of footage of a cream-coloured aircraft in good shape being examined by two Revolutionary Guard commanders. Hajizadeh said it was downed "through a joint operation by the Guards and Iran's regular army" by electronic ambush with minimum damage. A US official, unnamed, said Wednesday the United States doubted "the Iranians have the expertise" to exploit the technology.

**Kinematic object.** Purported RQ-170 Sentinel, displayed on Iranian state TV with little visible damage.

**Coverage frame.** military / incident

## Source integrity

- Why this is treated as an original: Al Jazeera first-publisher page on the UN letter, named Swiss ambassador, and the Thursday display.
- Wire reprint status: Not a wire reprint.
- What was excluded: BBC 8 December film/Gardner pages (earlier, different identity).

## LRRK relevance

Watch / Campaign / Passport. A Watch desk would have recorded a UN/Swiss-channel protest naming RQ-170 and a public intact-airframe display.
