## Executive read

### BLUF

January is a pre-CPSC month. The only live official kinematic fire file is last year’s Husqvarna Automower AWD charging-pattern recall (Health Canada / manufacturer / OPSS). CES 2022 then makes a camera-plus-remote-viewing floor robot the premium SKU, not a novelty.

### Key judgments

1. **[Assessment — High confidence]** No new CPSC, Health Canada, OPSS, or Safety Gate consumer-robot action dated January 2022 was found. The live official file is the December 2021 Husqvarna AWD lithium-overheat recall, still awaiting a numbered US CPSC page and the second mandatory OTA.
2. **[Assessment — High confidence]** CES 2022 (Ecovacs DEEBOT X1 family, 4 January; Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra) documents that obstacle-avoidance cameras are now also sold as live home-monitoring. That is a trust-boundary change, not an incident.
3. **[Inference — Moderate confidence]** The second Husqvarna OTA (battery-health / auto-shutdown), which the manufacturer dated to February 2022, is the next control that would change the fire picture.

### Analytic labels
- **Fact** — verified reporting or primary record
- **Assessment** — analytic judgment
- **Inference** — reasoned but not directly observed
- **Uncertainty** — unresolved information gap

### Source grades
- **A1** — authoritative primary record / directly confirmed
- **B1–B2** — generally reliable and corroborated
- **C3** — useful but requires caution (typical for forums)

## 01. CES 2022: the premium floor robot is now a camera that can watch the house

*Event / publication dates: 4 January 2022 (Ecovacs DEEBOT X1 CES launch); CES 2022 week (Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra, remote viewing)*

**Product class.** Robot vacuums / mop combos

**Verified record — [Fact — B1]** On 4 January 2022 Ecovacs launched the DEEBOT X1 family at CES, including X1 OMNI: AIVI 3.0 camera vision plus TrueDetect 2.0 laser depth scanning for obstacle avoidance, plus onboard voice (YIKO). [PR Newswire](https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/ecovacs-revolutionizes-home-cleaning-with-ultra-premium-robots-freeing-hands-and-time-301453139.html). Roborock’s S7 MaxV Ultra, shown the same CES cycle, pairs lidar with a video camera and two-way talk; TechRadar contemporaneously described the camera as a way to “keep an eye on pets and kids.” [TechRadar](https://www.techradar.com/news/roborocks-new-robot-vacuum-can-keep-an-eye-on-pets-and-kids-too). Later named-newsroom reviews (The Verge) state remote viewing is opt-in, live-stream only, and announced aloud — those reviews are after this window and are not January Facts.

**No January 2022 official recall, injury, or privacy enforcement on these SKUs was found.**

**Threat landscape.** A floor robot that already maps the house now ships with a camera whose second job is remote presence. The physical harm this month is not documented. The trust boundary is: obstacle-avoidance imagery and a live feed share one sensor.

**Forum / community notes.**
- none found.

**Intelligence assessment.** [Assessment — High confidence] Camera-plus-patrol is the 2022 premium default, not a one-off. [Uncertainty] CES launch copy is not a privacy audit. On-device vs cloud processing for X1 / S7 MaxV Ultra live view was not independently verified from the January primaries.

**Opportunity.** A regulator or named-newsroom test of whether “opt-in / announced aloud” holds on first boot would graduate this from landscape to control-fabric.

**LRRK relevance.** Sense / Control Fabric (camera as dual-use). Passport: live-view as a sold feature. Watch: any CES-class SKU that later appears in a leak or ICS advisory.

**Confidence.** High on the 4 January Ecovacs launch and on Roborock’s CES-cycle camera/two-way-talk positioning. Low on implementation detail.

## 02. Carry — Husqvarna Automower AWD fire file is live; CPSC has not posted

*Event / publication dates: UK OPSS alert 20 October 2021; Husqvarna US notice 7 December 2021; Health Canada 9 December 2021 (still live in January)*

**Product class.** Robotic lawn mowers

**Verified record — [Fact — A1]** Automower **435X AWD** and **535 AWD**. Lithium pack can overheat after a charging pattern that Health Canada dates to degradation after **1,450 charging cycles**. Health Canada: **no incidents or injuries in Canada** as of 15 November 2021; none in the United States; **five** international overheat incidents damaging the product and/or charging station; **310** Canada units, sold March 2020–August 2021. Remedy: two software updates via Automower Connect; packs with **>1,200 cycles** get a free battery. [Health Canada](https://recalls-rappels.canada.ca/en/alert-recall/husqvarnar-branded-automower-435x-awd-and-automower-535-awd-robotic-lawnmowers). Husqvarna US (7 December 2021): five overheat-or-fire reports, **none with personal injury**, all in Europe; first OTA (charging regime) expected December 2021, second (battery-health monitoring) expected February 2022. [Husqvarna US](https://www.husqvarna.com/us/discover/news-and-media/important-automower-awd-safety-notice/). UK OPSS alert date 20 October 2021: five fires while charging; does not meet Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016. [OPSS](https://www.gov.uk/product-safety-alerts-reports-recalls/product-recall-husqvarna-robotic-lawnmower-2111-0087) (GOV.UK HTML later dated 4 July 2022; alert date remains 20 October 2021).

**No CPSC numbered page exists yet in this window.** No January injury or new incident count was found.

**Threat landscape.** Lithium fire on an unsupervised outdoor kinematic, remedied by mandatory software. US consumers are on a manufacturer notice, not yet a CPSC recall alert.

**Forum / community notes.**
- none found.

**Intelligence assessment.** [Assessment — High confidence] The file is live and multi-jurisdiction. [Uncertainty] OTA uptake and whether any January US incident occurred are unpublished.

**Opportunity.** A numbered CPSC alert and confirmation that the February battery-health OTA actually shipped.

**LRRK relevance.** Control Fabric and Campaign (OTA as a safety control). Lab: cycle-life charging pattern. Watch: CPSC posting.

**Confidence.** High on Health Canada / Husqvarna / OPSS wording. Low on US unit count and OTA completion.

## Forward indicators

1. Numbered US CPSC Husqvarna AWD alert, and whether the second OTA ships in February as promised.
2. Whether CES camera-vacs ship remote-viewing on by default.
3. Any January–February pediatric robotic-mower incident in German-speaking Europe (none found this month).
4. Amazon Astro invite-only fleet: first named consumer injury or stair-fall report (2021 Motherboard leak is **out of window** and is not a January Fact).
5. Any CPSC / Health Canada / OPSS / Safety Gate action on a floor robot-vac — none found this month.

> **Collection integrity.** Window searched: CPSC, Health Canada, UK OPSS, Safety Gate, ACCC, named newsrooms. January 2022 official kinematic action: **none new**. Still-live carry is Husqvarna AWD (2021). CES launches are treated as a trust-landscape Fact, not as incidents. Excluded: FAO Schwarz wooden “robot buddy” (not a kinematic robot). Vice/Motherboard Astro leak is **28 September 2021**, not 2022. No January forum threads independently opened.
