## Record

**Verified extract — [Fact — A1]** BBC Persian reported Iranian media saying armed forces had downed an American reconnaissance UAV on the eastern border. Military sources told Iranian agencies they had taken an RQ-170 پهپاد "with slight damage." A military official told Fars that electronic-warfare and air-defence units discovered an advanced American RQ-170 that had briefly violated eastern border areas, took it out of the intruders' control, and brought it down with slight damage. Nato-led forces in Afghanistan said the aircraft Iran referred to was probably a US reconnaissance UAV that had been flying over western Afghanistan the previous week; operators had lost control and had been trying to determine its status. Neither side published time or place. US Defense, State and the CIA told BBC Persian they would not comment. The piece recalled Iran's summer claim of a shoot-down over Fordow, later withdrawn as an exercise, and said RQ-170 Sentinel existence leaked in 2009, was confirmed by the USAF in 2010, and was reported used to watch Osama bin Laden's compound during the raid.

**Kinematic object.** RQ-170 Sentinel UAV; ISAF lost-link over western Afghanistan; Iranian EW/air-defence claim.

**Coverage frame.** military / incident

## Source integrity

- Why this is treated as an original: BBC Persian first-language report with ISAF lost-link line and on-record US no-comment to BBC Persian.
- Wire reprint status: Not a wire reprint.
- What was excluded: English AJ/BBC same-day pages (separate languages).

## LRRK relevance

Watch / Campaign / Kestrel. A Watch desk would have recorded the first ISAF lost-link acknowledgement next to an Iranian EW-capture claim, plus three US agencies refusing comment to BBC Persian.
