## Executive read

### BLUF

November’s file is Jibo admitting it will not start rolling shipments before year-end. CEO Steve Chambers’s Beta 2 letter — Wi-Fi crashes, latency, “early stage product with limited skill functionality” — is the dated miss of the October promise. Cozmo remains a live SKU from October. No official recall or injury page was found.

### Key judgments

1. **[Assessment — High confidence]** GeekWire (21 November) and Robohub (18 November) are named-newsroom records that Jibo will not ship to backers in 2016.
2. **[Assessment — High confidence]** No November CPSC, Health Canada, or RAPEX numbered consumer-robot action was found.
3. **[Inference — Moderate confidence]** “Latency” plus the August international cancel is the same control-fabric failure: the social robot is a US cloud process that does not yet work in real homes.

### Analytic labels
- **Fact** — verified reporting or primary record
- **Assessment** — analytic judgment
- **Inference** — reasoned but not directly observed
- **Uncertainty** — unresolved information gap

### Source grades
- **A1** — authoritative primary record / directly confirmed
- **B1–B2** — generally reliable and corroborated
- **C3** — useful but requires caution (typical for forums)

## 01. Jibo will not start rolling shipments in 2016

*Event / publication dates: CEO email after Beta 2 (quoted mid-November); Robohub 18 November 2016; GeekWire 21 November 2016; SlashGear contemporaneous*

**Product class.** Social / desk companions

**Verified record — [Fact — B1]** Jibo CEO Steve Chambers emailed Indiegogo backers that Beta 2 “shed light on some important technical challenges” and: **“we will not start the rolling shipments of Jibo before the end of the year.”** Named issues: router/Wi-Fi configurations that crashed units in homes; discoverability of skills; error-mitigation when users did not know what to say; “unacceptable latency.” Chambers: “early stage product with limited skill functionality”; “We need to reach acceptable performance levels for our pre-public launch before we are willing to ship Jibo to your homes, and we’re not there yet.” Personality feedback was positive (testers called it a companion). No new ship date. [GeekWire 21 November](https://www.geekwire.com/2016/social-robot-jibo-delayed-yet-amazon-echo-continues-define-smart-speaker-market/); [Robohub 18 November](https://robohub.org/jibo-social-robot-wont-ship-in-2016-robotics-trends/); [SlashGear](https://www.slashgear.com/jibo-delayed-to-2017-as-social-robot-hits-more-hurdles-20464725/). April’s October promise is thereby broken. August’s international cancel stands. GeekWire notes a **10 November 2016 SEC Form D** for a further **$13.1 million**, total VC about **$65.4 million** — a financing Fact, not a ship.

No injury. No shipped consumer fleet. 2019 server death is out of window.

**Threat landscape.** A prepaid social robot that has now missed Holiday 2015, March/April 2016, and October 2016. Physical harm is none. The trust failure is fulfillment plus a cloud personality that fails on home Wi-Fi and latency.

**Forum / community notes.**
- GeekWire’s primary for the full email is a Reddit r/Jibo post of the Beta 2 update ([thread as cited](https://www.reddit.com/r/Jibo/comments/5disw7/jibo_update_beta_2/)) — **C3** until read as the newsroom quote. A prior late-September “pre-launch units starting November” option is likewise via Reddit, cited by GeekWire; it is background to this miss, not a September Fact re-filed here.

**Intelligence assessment.** [Assessment — High confidence] 2016 Jibo consumer shipment did not start. [Inference — Moderate confidence] Raising more VC while telling backers the product is “early stage” is the prepaid-companion pattern later seen in successor SKUs — not a 2016 AG case. [Uncertainty] How many Beta 2 units existed, and whether any backer received hardware this month, are unpublished.

**Opportunity.** A 2017 first-ship named-newsroom story, or a refund census.

**LRRK relevance.** Campaign (crowdfunded companion still unpaid in hardware). Control Fabric (home Wi-Fi + US cloud). Watch: Jibo 2017 window.

**Confidence.** High on the no-2016-ship statement as quoted. Low on hardware in any tester home as a retail event.

## Forward indicators

1. Any 2017 Jibo first-ship notice — not to be previewed as Fact.
2. Cozmo still-live status (October SKU).
3. BUDDY Q4 2016 promise now inside Q4.
4. Any CPSC 2016 consumer-robot recall — none found through November.
5. Zenbo still without a ship date.

> **Collection integrity.** One signal. **Killed:** Jibo 2019 shutdown; first-units-in-2016 rumor as Fact; invented CPSC Roomba recall; 2017 Reuters maps; 2018 Vector. No RAPEX/CPSC numbered consumer-robot page dated November 2016 found. Forum: Reddit only as the C3 host of the CEO email, quoted by GeekWire.
