**Verified extract — [Fact — B1]** ABC reported CASA spokesman Peter Gibson saying about 200 approved remotely piloted aircraft operators existed across Australia, with about 30 applications before the agency at any time, for agriculture, mining, police, fire brigades, aerial photography, survey and mapping. Gibson said Australia was one of the first countries in the world to actually have a set of rules covering and allowing for commercial remotely-piloted-aircraft operations, unlike the United States, the rules having been in place more than 10 years. CSIRO principal research scientist Dr Dave Henry described a 2010-onward project fitting a drone with a thermal camera to locate cattle in Queensland rangelands before mustering. Broome resident Shayne Thomson described recreational quads and a hoped-for coastal-erosion use at Gantheaume Beach, warning others to fly within CASA rules.
