January’s consumer kinematic file is channel and companion, not injury. SoftBank puts the Pepper personal robot on continuous sale in about 100 shops. WowWee opens Indiegogo for CHiP, a wheeled robot dog. No CPSC, Health Canada, or RAPEX consumer-robot recall was located in the window.

### Key judgments

## 01. WowWee CHiP — CES robot dog opens Indiegogo

**Verified record — [Fact — A1 / B1]** WowWee announced CHiP (Canine Home Intelligent Pet) at CES 2016 and opened Indiegogo the same week. Manufacturer: Indiegogo from $159; estimated retail **$199.99**; units “start arriving in homes in Q3 2016”; package includes SmartBand, SmartBall, SmartBed, and a second SmartBand. Indoor beacon/IR sensing; Mecanum wheels; auto-return to the SmartBed; companion app promised Q3 2016. **Threat landscape.** A fast indoor wheeled pet with owner-following and a “sic ’em” mode. Physical harm in this file is none. The trust path is a prepaid toy whose personality and follow-me radio sit on accessories and a later app.

## 02. SoftBank Pepper — personal robot goes on continuous shop sale in Japan

**Verified record — [Fact — A1 / B1]** SoftBank Robotics and SoftBank said that from **28 January 2016** the Pepper general-sale (personal) model would be available for application at about **100 SoftBank shops** and on the web at any time, ending the 2015 pattern of 1,000-unit web drops that sold out in about a minute. Shops carrying the consumer model would display a unit for pre-purchase interaction. The same shops would take reservations for the business SKU, Pepper for Biz. No official injury, death, or recall count for consumer Pepper was located this month.

**Threat landscape.** A networked humanoid sold as a home companion through a carrier shop, with a mandatory multi-year service plan. The physical-harm record this month is empty. The control fabric is the subscription: the object is not a one-time appliance.
