## Executive read

### BLUF

July’s consumer kinematic file is a trust path, not an injury path. Cynthia Breazeal’s Jibo Inc. opens an Indiegogo / company pre-order on 16 July for a desk-scale family companion with stereo cameras, a microphone array, and a 2015 ship promise. No official recall. Health Canada’s 30 July Husqvarna action is a gas push mower and is out of class.

### Key judgments

1. **[Assessment — High confidence]** On 16 July 2014 named newsrooms and IEEE Spectrum date Jibo’s consumer pre-order: US $499 on Indiegogo, developer kit $599, promised 2015 holiday (consumer) and fall 2015 (developer) ship. Two cameras “to detect and track people”; microphone array; Wi-Fi; typically plugged in.
2. **[Assessment — High confidence]** This is not a recall, not a shipping injury file, and not a regulator page. The trust change is a family-facing camera/mic companion sold before it exists as hardware in the home.
3. **[Assessment — High confidence]** Health Canada’s 30 July Husqvarna gas-powered *push* mower (operator-presence bail; about 1,900 units in the Canadian Press copy) is walk-behind and is out of class.

### Analytic labels
- **Fact** — verified reporting or primary record
- **Assessment** — analytic judgment
- **Inference** — reasoned but not directly observed
- **Uncertainty** — unresolved information gap

### Source grades
- **A1** — authoritative primary record / directly confirmed
- **B1–B2** — generally reliable and corroborated
- **C3** — useful but requires caution (typical for forums)

## 01. Jibo Indiegogo — a family companion with cameras and mics, sold before it ships

*Event / publication dates: 16 July 2014 (IEEE Spectrum; Recode/Vox; The Verge; CNN; MIT Technology Review)*

**Product class.** Social / desk companions

**Verified record — [Fact — A1 / B1]** On 16 July 2014 Erico Guizzo reported that Cynthia Breazeal (MIT Media Lab Personal Robots Group; Jibo Inc., Weston, Mass. and San Francisco) opened a crowdfunding campaign: “Starting today, the robot is available for pre-order on Indiegogo for US $499 and will ship during the 2015 holiday season. A developer package is available for $599 (it includes a full SDK and access to the Jibo developer program) and will ship in the fall of 2015.” Hardware as stated: ARM processor, Linux; “two cameras, which allow it to detect and track people, a microphone array for sound localization, and touch sensors on its body”; three motors; Wi-Fi; “typically plugged in for power, though with a battery (not included) it will be able to operate for about 30 minutes.” Skills named: cameraman (face-tracking photos), schedule assistant, telepresence avatar, storyteller for children. Breazeal’s line: users should find it so friendly it becomes “part of the family.” Guizzo notes the demo he saw was “a set of pre-programmed actions” and that Jibo “is not a finished product that’s ready to ship.” [IEEE Spectrum, 16 July 2014](https://spectrum.ieee.org/cynthia-breazeal-unveils-jibo-a-social-robot-for-the-home).

Recode (Liz Gannes; Vox reprint 16 July, 11:00 UTC): 11-inch lamp-like body; $499 pre-order with a deposit “starting as low as $99”; Indiegogo in parallel with a company-run campaign; can “snap family images,” flag appointments, play voicemails, read emails, and act as a telepresence robot “swiveling its camera and monitor.” Developer ship “third quarter of 2015”; consumer “ahead of the holidays next year.” [Vox / Recode](https://www.vox.com/2014/7/16/11628844/robotics-pioneer-launches-the-first-personal-robot-you-might-actually). The Verge (Colin Lecher, 16 July) independently dates the $499 pre-order and facial-recognition marketing. [The Verge](https://www.theverge.com/2014/7/16/5909625/robot-assistant-jibo). CNN same day. [CNN](https://www.cnn.com/2014/07/16/business/lake-jibo-robot).

No CPSC, Health Canada, or RAPEX page. No injury or incident count is stated in the opened launch copy. Campaign *close* totals are not treated as a July official figure here.

**Threat landscape.** A kinematic desk object that is sold as a family member and that sees and hears the room. Physical harm is not alleged. Trust boundaries: stereo cameras and a mic array in the kitchen/family room; face and voice recognition as a product claim; a 2015 ship and an unspecified support life; a platform/store so skills can change after purchase.

**Forum / community notes.**
- none found.

**Intelligence assessment.** [Assessment — High confidence] The 16 July date, $499/$599, two-camera / mic-array claims, and 2015 ship language are as the opened named-newsroom and IEEE Spectrum pages write them. [Inference — Moderate confidence] “Part of the family” plus child storytelling plus face tracking is the 2014 companion trust path (continuity and perception), not a laceration or fire path. [Uncertainty] What images or audio leave the device, and what happens if the company dies before or after ship, are unpublished in the 16 July copy. [Uncertainty] The live Indiegogo HTML did not render in this reconstruction (bot wall); campaign wording is taken from contemporaneous named newsrooms.

**Opportunity.** A dated privacy policy, a support-duration disclosure, and an actual ship notice.

**LRRK relevance.** Campaign and Control Fabric (cloud/Wi-Fi identity of a physical companion). Passport: camera + child-facing skills as a trust SKU. Watch: first ship (promised 2015, not this window).

**Confidence.** High on the 16 July launch date, price, and camera/mic claims as reported. Moderate on 2015 ship (future tense). Low on actual perception performance (Spectrum: pre-programmed demo) and on in-home inventory (none yet).

## Forward indicators

1. Jibo ship slip, privacy policy, or support-duration disclosure.
2. Any RAPEX robotic-mower blade or sensor alert (a later weekly report will carry one; it is not a July Fact).
3. Any CPSC / Health Canada robot-vac or STEM-kit battery file.
4. A dated *consumer-home* Pepper SKU (February 2015 promise is out of this year).
5. Any official iRobot Roomba recall.

> **Collection integrity.** One signal graduated. **Excluded:** Health Canada / Canadian Press 30 July Husqvarna gas *push* mower (walk-behind; operator-presence bail; not Automower). Pepper remains a June store unveil, not a July home SKU. No July CPSC robot-vac or robotic-mower numbered page. No RAPEX robotic-mower weekly report in this window. Forum empty.
