### BLUF

The UK cleared Amazon’s purchase of iRobot. The European Commission took the notification. Those are opposite first-layer answers in the same month. Neither is a safety recall.

### Key judgments

## 02. CMA clears Amazon / iRobot

**Product class.** Robot vacuums / mop combos (market structure)

**Verified record — [Fact — A1]** The CMA cleared the anticipated acquisition and did not refer it to Phase 2. Headline price in the CMA news release: **$1.7 billion**. Findings as written: iRobot’s UK robot-vac position is “modest” and already faces significant rivals, so loss of Amazon as a potential entrant would not be substantial; Amazon could disadvantage rivals on its storefront but would “lack the incentive”; robot-vac data are “generally not considered to be an important input” to emerging UK smart-home platforms. Colin Raftery: the deal would have “no impact on competition in the UK.” The release states the deal “remains under regulatory review in other jurisdictions” and is separate from the CMA’s CA98 Amazon Marketplace investigation.
