Cordless pool robots produced three official fire actions in one month: Zodiac’s water-into-the-lithium-block mechanism in the United Kingdom, a Steinbach/Wybotics charge-or-pack fire in Austria, and CPSC’s recall of the Aiper Seagull Pro — the unit that had been the free replacement for the 2023 Elite Pro.

## 01. Zodiac Freerider RF 5200 iQ — UK OPSS: water into the lithium block

*Event / publication dates: UK OPSS 6 March 2025*

**Product class.** Pool-cleaning robots

**Verified record — [Fact — A1]** UK OPSS published alert **2409-0066** on 6 March 2025 for the Zodiac Freerider **RF 5200 iQ**, batches **4923, 5123, 5223**. Risk level: **Low**. The product does not meet the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016. Hazard as written: injection-moulding parameters did not cover the necessary cooling time of the battery block; the block was weakened; when the battery was screwed into the plastic, cracks and weak points developed, compromising watertightness. Water can enter and mix with the lithium, leading to a short-circuit, overheating, and/or **thermal runaway and fire**. Official page **does not state incident, injury, or death counts**. Fluidra (Zodiac) collects the unit, replaces the battery block free, and returns the cleaner. The manufacturer page widens the model list beyond the OPSS table: Freerider **RF 5600 iQ, RF 5400 iQ, RF 5200 iQ**; XA-Li family; Freedom CNX-Li units. **Threat landscape.** Aquatic lithium plus a cracked enclosure. Pool water is not a misuse scenario on a product whose job is to live in a pool. The robot does not have to decide wrongly. It has to leak.

## 02. Aiper Seagull Pro ZT6001 — CPSC recalls the Elite Pro replacement

**Product class.** Pool-cleaning robots

**Verified record — [Fact — A1]** CPSC published recall **25-187** on 20 March 2025 for the Aiper Seagull Pro **ZT6001**, serials beginning S/N **“61.”** Hazard: “a large current adapter that can overheat,” posing burn and fire hazards. Units: about **32,660** US and about **2,530** Canada. Incidents: **19** reports of melting, smoking, or catching fire while charging; **five** property-damage; **no injuries**. Sold March 2023–May 2024 at Best Buy, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Walmart, Amazon, and Aiper.com for $700–$900. Remedy: free **Aiper Scuba S1**; free return label; ship replacement within 15 days. This SKU **was the free replacement** for the 2023 Aiper Elite Pro GS100 recall (CPSC 24 August 2023; 17 overheats; one minor fingertip burn). **Verified record — [Fact — A1 / B2]** Steinbach International GmbH recalled **Poolrunner Battery Pro Performance**, brand Steinbach Pool Professional, item **061207PP**, EAN 9008748002882, manufacturer **Wybotics Co. Ltd., China**, sold from 1 July 2022. Reason as written: a technical defect in the **charging station or the battery** may cause a fire. Remedy: stop use; return to retailer or Steinbach for refund or equal-value replacement. Verein für Konsumenteninformation dated the notice **5 March 2025**.
