**Verified extract — [Fact — B1]** Alamogordo Daily News, page 24, in a Holloman year-in-review section headed "Unmanned aerial systems," reported that Holloman graduated its first class of UAS pilots and sensor operators April 10, following a 2008 secretary-of-defense directive that a second formal UAS training unit graduate its first class by May 2009. The paper said Holloman declared operational capability for the Predator on Sept. 10 and invited Alamogordo community leaders to come take a look; they got to see the first official flight of the Predator at Holloman. Col. Greg Christ, vice commander of the 432nd Wing at Creech Air Force Base, Nev., said having the training at Holloman benefits the UAS program by separating the combat component from the training component. Up until Sept. 10, Creech was responsible for training and flying combat missions with the UAS. The next morning, Holloman had its first Predator crash. No one was injured.
