**Verified extract — [Fact — A1]** ABC Back Story producer Natasha Johnson reported proposed CASA licensing changes for small low-risk RPAs under two kilograms that would ease media use, and the ABC's own three-day internal training — said by Mark Corcoran to be a first in Australia for sub-2 kg RPAs. Training used modified Phantom2 RPAs with GoPro cameras, taught by CASA-licensed Coptercam. CASA rules cited: no flight within 5.5 km of an airport; no night; not within 30 metres of people; not over populous areas; below 121 metres; always in line of sight. ABC would ban staff and contractors from launching small drones over bushfires. Corcoran, who in 2006 saw an Israeli military targeting drone over Beirut, now headed the ABC drone-journalism project. Camera operator Ron Ekkel described RPAs as a fantastic reveal tool. Most metropolitan areas would remain off limits because of helipad and density rules.
