## Record

**Verified extract — [Fact — A1]** BBC published an interactive map from BBC Urdu research compiled January 2009–July 2010 by World Service correspondents in northern Pakistan and the tribal areas. It counted at least 87 US drone missile attacks from Obama's 20 January 2009 inauguration to end-June 2010 versus 25 between January 2008 and January 2009, and more than 700 killed under Obama versus just under 200 under Bush. Deaths by area included North Waziristan 386 and South Waziristan 279. Positive identification of victims had been made in fewer than a dozen cases. The piece said policy had shifted from al-Qaeda suspects to Pakistani Taliban providing haven. The CIA declined to comment. The live page no longer stamps the day; a same-week companion video on a fetched BBC AV page is dated 23 July 2010.

**Kinematic object.** US drone aircraft striking Pakistan tribal areas (dataset January 2009–June 2010).

**Coverage frame.** military

## Source integrity

- Why this is treated as an original: BBC Urdu first-party dataset and map, not a wire pickup.
- Wire reprint status: Not a wire reprint.
- What was excluded: later New America / BIJ tallies.

## LRRK relevance

Watch / Campaign / Kestrel. A Watch desk would have filed the doubled strike rate, the North/South Waziristan concentration, and the identification gap.
