## Executive read

### BLUF

October is a fielding-density month: the 3rd Brigade, 101st, deploying late this month, will later be described as the most UAV-heavy combat brigade in Army history — Shadow platoons and Raven in every company. The access change is organizational, not a new airframe. iRobot’s IPO is days away; MQ-9 is still not a combat system.

### Key judgments

1. **[Assessment — B2 / moderate confidence]** Defense Industry Daily later notes that when 3rd BCT/101st deployed to Iraq in late October 2005 it had RQ-7 Shadow platoons and RQ-11 Raven in every company. That is a later recap of an October deploy.
2. **[Assessment — high confidence]** iRobot S-1 is on file; IPO prices 9 November.
3. **[Inference — moderate confidence]** Company-level Raven plus brigade Shadow is the 2005 Army unmanned TOE, whether or not the “most in history” line holds.

### Analytic labels

- **Fact** — verified reporting or primary record
- **Assessment** — analytic judgment
- **Inference** — reasoned but not directly observed
- **Uncertainty** — unresolved information gap

### Source grades

- **A1** — authoritative primary record / directly confirmed
- **B1–B2** — generally reliable and corroborated
- **C3** — useful but requires caution

## 01. 101st late-October deploy: Shadow + Raven as a brigade stack

*Event / publication dates: late October 2005 deploy; DID recap of eDefense Online.*

**Verified record — [Fact — B2]** DID: 3rd Brigade, 101st Air Assault, deployed to Iraq late October 2005 “with more unmanned-aerial-vehicle (UAV) assets than any combat brigade in US Army history,” RQ-7 Shadow 200 platoons and RQ-11 Raven in every company. Shadow platoon under Special Troops Battalion; 22 soldiers when full. Source: https://www.defenseindustrydaily.com/field-report-on-raven-shadow-uavs-from-the-101st-01487/ (search/recap; used as B2).

**Threat landscape.** A brigade that owns both the 4.5-pound hand-throw and the rail-launched Shadow. Frequency, airspace, and IED-jammer fratricide are now a brigade S-3 problem.

**Intelligence assessment.** [Assessment — moderate confidence] The deploy happened in late October. [Uncertainty] “Every company” is a later recap. [Inference — moderate confidence] This TOE will be copied.

**Opportunity.** 101st deployment order annex.

**LRRK relevance.** Watch / Passport. Brigade as the unmanned unit of account.

**Confidence.** Moderate.

## 02. Raven still the small-UAS of record — IOT&E trouble is a November 2005 story

*Event / publication dates: Army ALT 2007 article will say late November 2005 the IOT&E unit alerted for early deploy.*

**Verified record — [Fact — B2]** A 2007 Army AL&T article (SUAV PO) states that in late November 2005 the designated SUAV IOT&E unit was alerted it would deploy early, wrecking the June 2006 IOT&E plan. That is a November event; October is still “IOT&E planned.” Raven urgent issue continues. Source listed in research: https://asc.army.mil/docs/pubs/alt/current/issue/articles/08_Acquisition_in_the_Fast_Lane_--_The_Small_Unmanned_Aerial_Vehicle_%28SUAV%29_Product_Office_200707.pdf (not fully fetched — B2).

**Threat landscape.** Program-of-record testing is losing to theater demand.

**Intelligence assessment.** [Assessment — moderate confidence] Urgent issue still dominates POR test.

**Opportunity.** SUAV PO calendar.

**LRRK relevance.** Watch.

**Confidence.** Moderate.

## 03. iRobot: last private month

*Event / publication dates: S-1 30 September; IPO 9 November.*

**Verified record — [Fact — A1]** S-1 on file. October is the roadshow window. Source: https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1159167/000095013505005611/b55709a2sv1za.htm

**Threat landscape.** PackBot’s owner is about to have public-market disclosure duties.

**Intelligence assessment.** [Assessment — high confidence] IPO is next month.

**Opportunity.** Watch the pricing release.

**LRRK relevance.** Campaign / Supply.

**Confidence.** High.

## 04. MQ-9 still SDD; Global Hawk B-model is an “early 2006” delivery in the 2004 testimony

*Event / publication dates: Lamartin March 2004: improved B-model Global Hawk “in early 2006.”*

**Verified record — [Fact — A1]** No October 2005 MQ-9 IOC. Global Hawk B is still ahead. Sources: https://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/aircraft/mq-9-program.htm ; http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/library/congress/2004_hr/04-03-17lamartin.htm

**Threat landscape.** Two large UAS programs, both in spiral, neither a new October IOC.

**Intelligence assessment.** [Assessment — high confidence] Negative new-IOC month for large UAS.

**Opportunity.** ASC delivery notices.

**LRRK relevance.** Watch.

**Confidence.** High.

## 05. Undersea: post-claimed LMRS launch, pre-Scranton docking trials

*Event / publication dates: Oklahoma City Sept 2005 (C3); Scranton January 2006 (later).*

**Verified record — [Fact — C3]** No October 2005 LMRS primary fetched. Continuing master-plan implementation.

**Threat landscape.** Heavyweight UUV still a trial.

**Intelligence assessment.** [Assessment — moderate confidence] Thin sea month.

**Opportunity.** Boeing trial reports.

**LRRK relevance.** Watch.

**Confidence.** Low-moderate.

## Forward indicators

Ranked watchlist as of the collection cutoff (what a 2005 Watch desk would have monitored next).

1. iRobot IPO (9 November).
2. CRS RL31872 update (21 November).
3. SUAV IOT&E unit pull (late November).
4. Any public Pakistan unmanned attribution.
5. MQ-9 early-fielding talk (COMACC is March 2006).

> **Collection integrity.** 101st “most UAV-heavy” line is a later recap. SUAV IOT&E disruption is a November story, flagged as such. No invented October contracts.

*LRRK — security assurance for systems that sense, move, and act.*
