## Executive read

### BLUF

October is the Jibo fulfillment month. Jibo Inc. opens public orders at $899 on 25 October and dates public pre-order shipping to **7 November**. Engadget the same day: Indiegogo backers “have already started receiving their robots.” Robot Report: more than 2,500 backer units from September. This is a companion-trust *ship*, not a brick. The brick is 2019 and is not imported.

### Key judgments

1. **[Assessment — High confidence]** The dated public start-of-fulfillment is the 25 October launch (PR Newswire + Engadget) pointing at 7 November public ship, with backer units already in homes.
2. **[Assessment — High confidence]** Jibo is cloud-tethered and North-America-only. International backers were refunded in 2016 over US-server latency. That tether is the trust residue of the ship, not a 2017 shutdown.
3. **[Assessment — High confidence]** No official consumer-robot recall dated October 2017 was found.

### Analytic labels
- **Fact** — verified reporting or primary record
- **Assessment** — analytic judgment
- **Inference** — reasoned but not directly observed
- **Uncertainty** — unresolved information gap

### Source grades
- **A1** — authoritative primary record / directly confirmed
- **B1–B2** — generally reliable and corroborated
- **C3** — useful but requires caution (typical for forums)

## 01. Jibo ships — public launch 25 October; public fulfillment dated 7 November; backers already holding units

*Event / publication dates: 25 October 2017 (PR Newswire; Engadget 20:44 ET); 30 October 2017 (Voicebot)*

**Product class.** Social / desk companions

**Verified record — [Fact — A1 / B1]** Jibo, Inc., 25 October 2017: official public launch; order at jibo.com; **$899**; “approximately 6 lbs… about 11 inches tall”; “will begin shipping to pre-order customers on **November 7**.” Face and voice recognition “up to 15” people; family photographer; OTA updates; SDK “available in 2018.” Steve Chambers, CEO; Cynthia Breazeal, co-founder / chief scientist. [PR Newswire](https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/meet-jibo-your-new-best-friend-introducing-the-first-social-robot-for-the-home-300542856.html). Engadget, 25 October: Indiegogo raised “over $3.6 million”; backers “have already started receiving their robots”; newer pre-orders “will start shipping on November 7th”; still not shipping outside the US and Canada — international backers refunded over latency to US servers. [Engadget](https://www.engadget.com/2017-10-25-social-robot-jibo-reaches-indiegogo-backers-three-years-later.html). Robot Report: “Starting in September 2017… shipped more than 2,500 units to its 2014 Indiegogo backers”; public units “will start shipping on November 7, 2017.” [The Robot Report](https://www.therobotreport.com/jibo-social-robot-on-sale-for-899/). Voicebot, 30 October: public pre-order $899; “will ship on November 7”; original target fall 2015. [Voicebot](https://voicebot.ai/2017/10/30/social-robot-jibo-begins-shipping/).

**This is start-of-fulfillment. It is not a brick, not a funeral, and not a server-death. Those are March 2019 and are out of year.**

**Injuries/deaths:** none. Economic residue this month is the $899 price against Echo / Google Home, not a regulator count.

**Threat landscape.** A desk companion whose personality is a US cloud. The ship makes the tether real: the robot is now in living rooms, and the company has already told the rest of the world it cannot hold a session from abroad. Physical harm named is none.

**Forum / community notes.**
- Voicebot quotes Indiegogo commenters (mixed “worth the wait” vs missing skills). Grade **C3**. Not used as Fact.

**Intelligence assessment.** [Assessment — High confidence] Dated public fulfillment start is 7 November as announced 25 October; backer receipt is already underway. [Inference — Moderate confidence] A cloud-only social robot shipping three years late into a $50-speaker market is a continuity risk, not yet a kill. [Uncertainty] Independent count of backer units beyond Robot Report’s “more than 2,500” was not obtained.

**Opportunity.** A support-duration disclosure, a dated privacy policy, or any 2017 regulator file. Do not pre-write 2019.

**LRRK relevance.** Control Fabric and Campaign (cloud as the robot). Passport: $899 SKU after a 2014 crowdfund. Watch: 7 November public ship — fulfillment, not funeral.

**Confidence.** High on the 25 October launch text and the 7 November public-ship date as announced. Moderate on the 2,500 backer figure. Low on installed-base SLAs.

## Forward indicators

1. 7 November public Jibo ship — November window; already dated here, not to be double-counted as a new Fact unless a 7 November receipt primary appears.
2. Sony aibo revival rumors / announcement.
3. Kuri holiday ship.
4. Any 2017 official consumer-robot recall.
5. IEC / EN robotic-mower standard activity.

> **Collection integrity.** One signal. September backer-ship figures are cited as October reporting, not back-dated into September. **Hard kills:** Jibo funeral / server death (4 March 2019); Anki shutdown (April 2019); Vector (October 2018); iRobot sold maps (July walk-back stands); Roomba CPSC recall (none); named mower fatality (none); Pertisau. Forum color is one C3 Indiegogo pair via Voicebot; not graduated. Thin on official IDs: **NIL**.
