August split the unmanned portfolio: Northrop Grumman took a $635.8 million carrier UCAS demonstration, and the first rifle-armed U.S. ground robots became a public fact—two acting systems, one at sea in 2011 and one already on an Iraqi street, neither under a single joint C2 picture.

## 01. UCAS-D / X-47B — carrier unmanned combat becomes a funded demo

**Threat landscape.** A low-observable, autonomous, carrier-suitable UAS is now a Navy demonstration, not a joint combat program. The physical consequence is a 2011-class carrier air-wing problem: how a deck integrates an unmanned jet with manned cycles.

## 02. SWORDS public — armed robots on the record

**Verified record — [Fact — B1]** Wired, 2 August 2007: three SWORDS robots have deployed to Iraq armed with M249 machine guns; “the first time in any warzone — the machines are carrying guns.” https://www.wired.com/2007/08/httpwwwnational/ Later-attributed National Defense detail (April arrival, June approval, three with 3rd ID/3rd Bde, 80 unfunded) is consistent but was not an August Army primary.

**Verified record — [Fact — C3]** No August 2007 UN, Georgian MoD, or Israeli export primary on Hermes/Skylark transfers was fetched. 2006 Hezbollah Ababil use remains the last hard public Iran-proxy UAV fact. Later reporting will date Georgian Israeli-UAV purchases to 2007; that is not an August 2007 primary.
