### BLUF

January moved the Army’s Hunter into the CENTCOM fight and put UAV inventory, not just Predator video, on the Iraq-war packing list — while inspectors were already in-country, the 7 December declaration was on the table, and REMUS UOES had three months left on a two-year clock that was about to become a port-clearance war.

## 01. January 2003 — Hunter to CENTCOM

**Threat landscape.** A corps/division RSTA UAV with a 2002 BAT test behind it is now in the Gulf. The trust boundary is still weather and a 1996-cancelled production line.

## 02. 22 January — Firebee payload story goes public

**Threat landscape.** A cheap dropper in the press is an industrial hedge, not a CENTCOM asset this month.

## 03. UAV inventory on the eve of war — 163 vehicles in February snapshot, January build

**Threat landscape.** 163 air vehicles, most of them Pioneer/Hunter/Shadow-class, is not a robotic air force. Predator 48 is the armed-capable core.
