### BLUF

January’s contemporaneous class+spine primary is a companion cloud-kill: Embodied’s servers for the child-facing Moxie robot were to cease by 30 January, with OpenMoxie released 17 January as an unsupported local substitute. A later-sourced litter-box crush (PetPivot Autoscooper 11, alleged 27 January) is kept on the event date; it was not a January publication.

**Verified record — [Fact — A1 / B1]** On **17 January 2025**, Embodied CEO Paolo Pirjanian posted that **OpenMoxie is now available to download**, crediting Justin Beghtol and volunteer Embodied staff. The same-day company-facing summary states that Embodied cloud operations **cease by 30 January 2025**; that OTA **24.10.803** must be installed while update servers are still up; and that OpenMoxie is a locally hosted, community-driven substitute offered **as-is**, with **no warranties**, **no Embodied technical support**, and **no ongoing obligation** to maintain Moxie or its services. A GitHub repository (`jbeghtol/openmoxie`) is the official OpenMoxie source named in that effort. Prior-window Closing FAQs (December 2024) already stated that Moxie will not perform core interactive functions once cloud services end; that lineage is not re-counted as a January Fact. **Threat landscape.** A child-facing companion whose personality is a server. After 30 January the official cloud path is dead. OpenMoxie is a local escape hatch only for units that took the last OTA in time. That is a brick for everyone else, and an unsupported self-host for the rest.

**Opportunity.** A published field count of updated vs bricked units, or an FTC / state-AG complaint that cites the December no-refund FAQ against the November 2024 staff support-duration theory.

## 02. PetPivot Autoscooper 11 alleged to have crushed cat Sarabi (later-sourced)

**Product class.** Robotic litter boxes

**Verified record — [Fact — A1 / B1]** Stephanie Gomez and Frank Gueits later allege that on 27 January 2025 they found their rescue cat Sarabi dead, partially inside a **PetPivot Autoscooper 11** (ACT-58TW AS11, about $200, sold on Amazon, a Christmas gift). The later complaint describes a motor still running, a dislodged waste bin, and a crushed torso. Marketing language later quoted: remaining partially open, “safe,” sensors that stop when a cat is inside, operable unsupervised. This month produced **no contemporaneous public record**. The death date is taken from the later complaint and from *New York Post* copy of 21 June 2025. **Threat landscape.** A kinematic enclosure that cycles around a living animal. If presence sensing or the waste path fails, Move becomes crush. In January that mechanism is alleged, not adjudicated.

[Inference — Moderate confidence] Cheap Amazon-channel kinematics will keep producing first cases because they combine unsupervised marketing with thin sensor suites. [Uncertainty] Sensor design, unit volume, and uniqueness are untested this month; CEO “only fatal incident / more than 100,000 units” is a later company statement, not a January finding.

**Opportunity.** A contemporaneous CPSC or Health Canada file, or a January newsroom item, would have moved this from a later-sourced event into a January primary. None was found.
