## Executive read

### BLUF

February is a prepaid-companion month. Blue Frog Robotics opens a 1,000-unit BUDDY pre-sale at $699 with a Q4 2016 ship promise. No official consumer-robot recall, named injury, or CPSC/RAPEX page was located in the window.

### Key judgments

1. **[Assessment — Hi`è confidence]** The 3 February BUDDY pre-sale is a manufacturer-dated prepaid SKU, not a shipping robot and not a regulator file.
2. **[Assessment — High confidence]** A search of CPSC, Health Canada, EU Safety Gate, and named newsrooms produced no spine-grade robotic-mower, robot-vac, kit-battery, or companion safety action dated February 2016.
3. **[Inference — Moderate confidence]** “Monitor a house” on a prepaid, still-unshipped companion is the same trust shape as Jibo: money now, personality later, cloud implied.

### Analytic labels
- **Fact** — verified reporting or primary record
- **Assessment** — analytic judgment
- **Inference** — reasoned but not directly observed
- **Uncertainty** — unresolved information gap

### Source grades
- **A1** — authoritative primary record / directly confirmed
- **B1–B2** — generally reliable and corroborated
- **C3** — useful but requires caution (typical for forums)

## 01. Blue Frog BUDDY — 1,000-unit pre-sale at $699, Q4 ship promised

*Event / publication dates: 3 February 2016 (Blue Frog / PRWeb)*

**Product class.** Social / desk companions; security / home patrol; elder-care / assistive companions (positioning)

**Verified record — [Fact — A1 / B1]** Blue Frog Robotics announced a limited pre-sale of **1,000** BUDDY units at **$699 US** (about 10% under planned list), exclusive at adoptbuddy.com, with shipment “expected in Q4 2016.” A 12-pack at $6,990 and a $150 docking station were also offered. CEO Rodolphe Hasselvander: “the first companion robot to realize the promise of meaningful interaction between humans and machines.” Claimed functions include house monitoring, connected-home control, children’s games, and elderly medication reminders. Open-source platform. CES 2016 showing is background for this pre-sale, not a separate February Fact. [PRWeb 3 February](https://www.prweb.com/releases/buddy_the_companion_robot_from_blue_frog_robotics_available_now_in_pre_sale_limited_time_offer_only_1_000_buddy_robots_priced_at_699_00_us/prweb13196354.htm).

No injury or death count is stated. No CPSC or RAPEX page was found.

**Threat landscape.** A prepaid family companion that claims to watch the house and remind elders, sold before hardware ships. Physical harm this month is none. The trust failure, if it comes, is fulfillment and a camera in the home.

**Forum / community notes.**
- none found.

**Intelligence assessment.** [Assessment — Hi`è confidence] This is a 1,000-unit pre-sale, not a live fleet. [Inference — Moderate confidence] Q4 2016 ship language will be the first date to break. [Uncertainty] How many of the 1,000 sold, and whether any unit existed as production hardware, are unpublished.

**Opportunity.** A dated ship notice, a refund, or a regulator prepaid-goods action.

**LRRK relevance.** Campaign (prepaid SKU). Control Fabric (home-monitor claim). Watch: Q4 2016 BUDDY ship.

**Confidence.** High on the 3 February pre-sale terms as written. Low on hardware readiness and on later delivery.

## Forward indicators

1. BUDDY Q4 2016 ship — or a slip.
2. Jibo March/April Indiegogo window.
3. Pepper Omotesando shop (announced for March).
4. Any 2016 official robotic-mower or robot-vac action.
5. CHiP Q3 retail.

> **Collection integrity.** One signal. Window = February 2016 only (leap year; cutoff 29 February). **Excluded:** January Pepper shop-sale start; CES 2016 as a February event; Anki Drive cars; hoverboards. No February CPSC / Health Canada / RAPEX numbered consumer-robot page found. Kuri product announcement remains 2017. Forum empty. Thin month left as a single prepaid file, not padded.
