**Verified extract — [Fact — B1]** BBC Technology reporter Jane Wakefield reported Mark Zuckerberg's announcement that Facebook would use a fleet of solar-powered drones, plus low-earth-orbit and geosynchronous satellites and infrared lasers, to connect the two-thirds of the world without net access. Facebook had set up a Connectivity Lab with aerospace specialists from NASA JPL and Ames and hired a five-member team from British firm Ascenta, whose founders developed the Zephyr solar-powered unmanned aircraft. Zuckerberg was quoted: "We're going to continue building these partnerships, but connecting the whole world will require inventing new technology too." Ovum analyst Mark Little told the BBC the project also expands Facebook's audience and advertising space. The page compared the plan with Google's Project Loon balloons launched in New Zealand.
