## Executive read

### BLUF

August’s only class+spine primary is Australia’s ACCC recall of the Zodiac FreeRider FR1000 iQ pool robot: a battery-enclosure defect can let water in, overheat, and fire. Ecovacs DEF CON copy and the Honda Miimo carry fail the in-month pair rule and are demoted. No August CPSC consumer-robot recall was found.

### Key judgments

1. **[Assessment — High confidence]** ACCC PRA 2024/20261 (published 15 August 2024) is a dated official pool-robot fire recall. Serials begin ACLA03133 plus listed four-digit tails. Sales 26 February–27 May 2024. Australia only on this page.
2. **[Assessment — High confidence]** No CPSC, Health Canada, OPSS, or Safety Gate consumer-robot action dated August 2024 was found.
3. **[Inference — Moderate confidence]** Water into a lithium pack is a docked-charge fire path, not a blade file.

### Analytic labels
- **Fact** — verified reporting or primary record
- **Assessment** — analytic judgment
- **Inference** — reasoned but not directly observed
- **Uncertainty** — unresolved information gap

### Source grades
- **A1** — authoritative primary record / directly confirmed
- **B1–B2** — generally reliable and corroborated
- **C3** — useful but requires caution

## 01. ACCC — Zodiac FreeRider FR1000 iQ pool robot, battery enclosure, fire

*Event / publication dates: recall published 15 August 2024; serial-list update 5 September 2024 (out of this window as a restatement)*

**Product class.** Pool-cleaning robots

**Verified record — [Fact — A1]** Australian Competition and Consumer Commission Product Safety recall, Fluidra Group Australia Pty Ltd, **published 15 August 2024**, PRA **2024/20261**. Product: Zodiac FreeRider FR1000 iQ cordless robotic swimming pool cleaner. Electrical approval **GMA-515357**. Manufacturer country listed Malaysia. Dates available for sale **26 February 2024 – 27 May 2024**, nationally (NSW, Queensland, South Australia, Victoria, Western Australia).

Reason: “A manufacturing defect has created weak points in the battery enclosure, which may allow water to leak into the battery and cause overheating.” Hazard: “There is a risk of serious injury or property damage if the battery overheats and causes a fire.”

Affected serials as printed: 18-character numbers beginning **ACLA03133** followed by one of **4723, 4823, 4923, 5023, 5123, 5223, 0124, 0224, 0324, 0424, 0524**. Remedy: turn off; do not use or charge; keep separate from the docking station; contact Fluidra for free pickup and a replacement. Phone 1300 392 578; au.fr1000recall@fluidra.com; www.zodiac.com.au/ProductRecall. [ACCC](https://www.productsafety.gov.au/search-consumer-product-recalls/zodiac-freerider-fr1000-iq-robotic-pool-cleaner-updated).

**Official page does not state an injury or incident count.** No matching CPSC or Health Canada page was found in this window. The 5 September serial-advertisement update is out of window.

**Threat landscape.** Water into a lithium pack on a kinematic pool robot. Sense is not the failure; the enclosure is. Fire and burn are the named residual.

**Forum / community notes.**
- none independently opened as Fact.

**Intelligence assessment.** [Assessment — High confidence] Dated official Australian recall on a named pool-robot SKU. [Uncertainty] How many units sit behind the serial tails; whether any fire actually occurred. [Inference — Moderate confidence] A later CPSC/Health Canada twin would widen the geography; none is in this window.

**Opportunity.** A CPSC or Health Canada mirror, or a dated incident count.

**LRRK relevance.** Lab: battery-enclosure ingress. Watch: PRA 2024/20261. Control Fabric: docked charge while wet.

**Confidence.** High on the opened ACCC page, the serial prefix, and the fire wording. Low on unit count and on unpublished incidents.

## Forward indicators

1. UK OPSS Miimo (still ahead).
2. 25 September Astro for Business cease-function.
3. Any CPSC twin to the Zodiac enclosure file.
4. First companion-robot AG filing of 2024.
5. Any 2024 CPSC consumer-robot recall.

> **Collection integrity.** Dictionary audit. One signal added (ACCC Zodiac FreeRider). **Killed (not numbered):** (1) TechCrunch / DEF CON 32 Ecovacs spy research (9 August) — robot-vac / Goat class, no spine (research disclosure, not recall / injury / brick / docket). https://techcrunch.com/2024/08/09/ecovacs-home-robots-can-be-hacked-to-spy-on-their-owners-researchers-say/ (2) Ecovacs 22 August “inadvertently overlooked” fix promise — no spine. https://techcrunch.com/2024/08/22/ecovacs-says-it-will-fix-bugs-that-can-be-abused-to-spy-on-robot-owners/ (3) Honda Miimo France carry — open July recall, not an August primary; held. https://rappel.conso.gouv.fr/fiche-rappel/15146/Interne Impact only was already the rule on Ecovacs; this filing does not restate exploit steps. No August official US/EU safety recall. No Litter-Robot. No iRobot or Neato brick. Forum empty. Five-signal form is not padded.
