## Executive read

### BLUF

July locks two companion-toy dates. WowWee says CHiP arrives 30 August on Amazon. Anki says Cozmo and a beta SDK ship in the US on 16 October. No official recall or named injury was located.

### Key judgments

1. **[Assessment — High confidence]** Digital Trends (8 July, CE Week) is the in-window retail-date lock for CHiP, not a CES re-announce.
2. **[Assessment — High confidence]** PCMag (12 July) is the in-window lock of Cozmo’s **16 October** US launch plus SDK access to faces, map, and motion.
3. **[Assessment — High confidence]** No July CPSC, Health Canada, or RAPEX numbered consumer-robot action was found.

### Analytic labels
- **Fact** — verified reporting or primary record
- **Assessment** — analytic judgment
- **Inference** — reasoned but not directly observed
- **Uncertainty** — unresolved information gap

### Source grades
- **A1** — authoritative primary record / directly confirmed
- **B1–B2** — generally reliable and corroborated
- **C3** — useful but requires caution (typical for forums)

## 01. WowWee CHiP — 30 August Amazon arrival dated at CE Week

*Event / publication dates: 8 July 2016 (Digital Trends / CE Week New York)*

**Product class.** Robot pets / companion animals; toy / entertainment robots

**Verified record — [Fact — B1]** At CE Week, WowWee CTO Davin Sufer demonstrated CHiP. Digital Trends: GestureSense, voice, IR/beacon surroundings; BLE phone; SmartBall fetch; SmartBand follow; auto-return to charge “like a Roomba.” **“The toy arrives on August 30, and it’s available now for pre-order sales via Amazon.”** [Digital Trends 8 July](https://www.digitaltrends.com/cool-tech/wowwee-chip-pet-robot-dog/). January CES/Indiegogo is background, not re-filed.

No injury. No CPSC page.

**Threat landscape.** A fast indoor wheeled pet that follows a wristband. Physical harm this month is none. The residual paths are collision and a radio identity for “owner.”

**Forum / community notes.**
- none found.

**Intelligence assessment.** [Assessment — High confidence] 30 August is a named retail date, not a ship confirmation. [Uncertainty] Whether Amazon actually posts units that day is unpublished this month.

**Opportunity.** An August/September in-stock review or any toy-robot official action.

**LRRK relevance.** Sense / Move / Act (follow-me). Watch: 30 August CHiP.

**Confidence.** High on the 8 July date-lock. Low on actual first-sale day.

## 02. Anki Cozmo — 16 October US launch and SDK beta dated

*Event / publication dates: 12 July 2016 (PCMag)*

**Product class.** Toy / entertainment robots; educational / programmable kits; social / desk companions

**Verified record — [Fact — B1]** PCMag reported Anki will release a free Cozmo SDK beta **alongside** the robot on **16 October** in the US. Pre-order **$159.99**; retail **$179.99**; pack = robot, hash, three power cubes. SDK: wheel/lift/head, sensor data, face/expression tracking, 3D pose, **internal map**, path/motion planners, behavior and animation systems. CEO Hanns Tappeiner, quoted: built so “anyone” can access the technology. [PCMag 12 July](https://uk.pcmag.com/robotics/82913/anki-to-release-sdk-alongside-cozmo-robot). June 27 unveil is background.

No injury. Anki Drive cars remain out of class.

**Threat landscape.** A consumer toy whose developer surface includes a live map and face tracker. Physical harm this month is none. The trust path is child-facing kinematics plus an SDK that reads the same sensors.

**Forum / community notes.**
- none found.

**Intelligence assessment.** [Assessment — High confidence] 16 October is now a named US date. [Inference — Moderate confidence] SDK-on-day-one is a deliberate Kinect-style bet, and a privacy surface. [Uncertainty] Whether the beta is local-only or cloud-backed is unpublished.

**Opportunity.** The 16 October ship review.

**LRRK relevance.** Control Fabric (SDK on a child’s robot). Passport: map + face APIs. Watch: 16 October Cozmo.

**Confidence.** High on the PCMag date and SDK scope as written. Low on implementation.

---

## Forward indicators

1. CHiP 30 August Amazon.
2. Cozmo 16 October + SDK.
3. Jibo October promise (still unshipped).
4. Any official mower RAPEX twin to April/June European actions.
5. Mapping Roomba as a 2016 SKU extension.

> **Collection integrity.** Two signals. **Excluded:** June Cozmo unveil (already filed); January CHiP CES; Anki Drive; hoverboards. No July CPSC / Health Canada / RAPEX numbered consumer-robot page found. Forum empty.
